Middleweight contender Martin Murray has issued a statement calling on WBA super champion Felix Sturm to be ‘fair’ and offer him a rematch having announced his next outing for April 13.
Murray who fought Sturm to a draw back in December revealed he had yet to hear from the champion’s camp about a rematch, claiming he could bring 1000 fans with him to the German’s hometown.
Sturm’s statement read…
‘After recently hearing that Felix has announced the date of his next fight (April 13) in Germany, I would like to make it known that I have still not heard anything of a rematch. I don't know whether their team have discussed opponents but I am here Felix – ready and waiting.
‘Felix has been a great champion, but both me and him know that night in Mannheim he did not beat me. Felix cannot beat me. He knows I am the better fighter and so I am not expecting him to offer me a rematch.
‘You offered Randy Griffin one and the same to Matthew Macklin, so you have proved that you try and correct close fights (or losses) but I don't think that the Sturm team are confident that you can win this one and as a result they and you will avoid me. Please be fair to yourself, to me and the German people who have supported you to get this fight on!
‘My manager and promoter built a good relationship with your team in the build-up and negotiations went well for the previous fight so this should be a straight forward agreement. I won't ask for silly money, just give me a fair price. I will even come to your own city of Cologne and bring double the fans I did last time and anyone watching the last fight we see the spectacle on offer.
‘Imagine nearly 1000 English fans crammed in there, it will be an event remembered for years, so come on Felix, I am here, ready and waiting! Let's get it on. The German people who gave tremendous support after the last fight I thank you, it meant a lot to me and if we sort this rematch out I will give you all a fight to remember.’
