British and Commonwealth light-heavyweight champion Tony Bellew believes WBO titleholder Nathan Cleverly has gone back on his word to fight him again if their first meeting was close.
Bellew lost a majority decision to Cleverly back in October but is adamant that he wasn’t beaten by the Welshman despite the result on the judges’ scorecards and is chasing a rematch in 2012.
‘I didn’t think I lost,’ Bellew told Fighthype.com. ‘I’m disgusted that I’m not getting an immediate rematch, as we agreed before the fight that if it’s close, we’d do it again.
‘It’s frustrating, but I know I didn’t lose and I’m an honest individual who will not lie to myself. I refuse to believe Nathan Cleverly beat me. This is why I feel a rematch is a must – if I get that in 2012, I know I will be world champion.’
Meanwhile, Bellew has a fight with British mandatory challenger Danny McIntosh going to a purse bid on January 11, but doesn’t believe the contender wants to face him.
‘He’s [McIntosh] already knocked back a huge offer to fight me. He’s basically all mouth, no action. I’d like the chance to shut his daft looking face up. This is one Scouser in a tracksuit that will do damage to him,’ added Bellew.
There are two fighters in his division that the Liverpudlian did reveal he would not want to face however; WBC championBernard Hopkins and No1 contender Chad Dawson.
‘I fight anyone put in front me but I’d never choose to fight Dawson. He’s all wrong for me; tall southpaw, always on the move. B-Hop is a legend and I’ll never call his name. I respect him too much,’ said Bellew.
