Fighting Talk with Ryan Clark

B: Hi Ryan, thanks for agreeing to this interview. Lets start with your record. A massive 52 fights over just 2 and a half against fighters of all styles.  That is an amazing amount of experience. Do you feel this has helped you develop in your abilities as a fighter?

RC: Yes it has helped me a lot to mix with the best as I only had 12 amateur fights so I see this as my experience Even though its a loosing record I think you should look a lot more closer at it - Liam Camereon 39 38 Ryan Greene 39 38. These are all top amateurs coming into pros. I was just a fighter now I’m ready to go in 2012

B: Now as you say, the results are not what you would hope for. Do you feel you have the skills to become a winner and if so, what are you putting in place to change your match outcomes for the future?

RC: I will be a winner! I want that Prizefighter trophy. I’ve got a strength and conditioning coach now and I’m training full time last year. Now I’m gonna show everyone.

B: Are you sponsored? If you work, how do you balance that with your training needs?

RC: Yes I’ve got a few good sponsors so I don’t work now. I have been quite fortunate in life

B: How did you first become involved in boxing?

RC: Erm I dont know really. I never used to be a tough guy. Boxing came out of nowhere. I went down the gym and just went on from there.

B: What decided you to turn pro?

RC: I was offered a contract so of course any 19 year old would jump at the chance after 12 amateur fights so I thought i thought ‘why not?’

B: Would you accept the hashtag #journeyman as fitting for you or not and why?

RC: it was for my record, but now its going to change! I just need to be given the chance.

B: Which boxers have inspired you most in your boxing career and style?

RC: Tyson! I’m big and tall but I don’t box. I can really fight n everyone knows that after being in the ring with me

B: How do you mentally prepare for a fight? do you have any last-minute habits or rituals?

RC: No. I say my prayers and get really nervous…Yeah I still get bad nerves before every fight haha

B: Can you outline a typical training day?

RC: Mon, Wed & Fri at Carls. The rest of the week 3 times with my S&C coach then swimming and running (and the odd sunbed of, course ha ha)

B: What aspect of training do you least enjoy and why?

RC: Running! Hate it - I think a lot of boxers do! It bores me to death!
B; What would you say are your greatest strengths as a boxer?

RC: My chin and my toughness. I can keep moving forward though anything. No one can hurt me.

B: who would you chose as sparring partners for your next training camp and why?

RC The lads in my gym are perfect for me. Toe to toe fighting suits me down to the ground.

B: I have to say I have a lot of respect for you because everyone knows how hard it to get back in the ring after a loss. What motivates you to prepare for so many fights closely fitted together?

RC: Because I know I’ve been learning my trade. Now the trade’s gonna learn about me.

B: Who has been your toughest opponent so far (pro or amateur) and why?

RC: I’ve not really had a tough one! Everyone thought it was a tough fight with frank but he didn’t hurt me once. Good kids, yea, but they haven’t been tough.

B: You have quite a strong online presence and make use of social media such as Facebook and twitter. Do you feel this can help a boxer with his career?

RC: Deffo because I’ve made a lot of fans and friends on Facebook and twitter and they all know what I can do too!  Everyone sees how tough I am and everyone knows i can bang when these shots start coming together. Then it begins and they will trust me.

B: What are your boxing ambitions?

RC: To change it all around and show everyone what i really am capable of and I will do that

B: So what’s next on the cards in the coming year?

RC: Get a tittle fight and god willing a get in Prizefighter. Then we take it from there the new ‘fearless' Ryan Clark is here.

B: Thanks for the interview mate. Here's hoping you get the chances you want.
